Little Horns is a portrait series that explores the delicate intersection of innocence, magic, and the ephemeral purity found in early childhood. By photographing twelve three-year-old children against a moody, dark backdrop, each adorned with a hand-crocheted wool unicorn horn, I sought to capture the raw, unfiltered essence of their emotions.
The unicorn horn, a symbol of mythical purity and wonder, serves as a visual metaphor for the innate magic and conscience that children embody. Their expressions—ranging from joyful exuberance and quiet contemplation to defiance and melancholy—reflect the full spectrum of human emotion in its most authentic form. These fleeting moments are reminders of the pure, unguarded states that often fade as we grow older.
Through Little Horns, D + F Studio invite viewers to reconnect with the transient beauty of childhood, to see the world again through the eyes of wonder, and to recognize the extraordinary in the ordinary. This project is not just about capturing faces; it's about preserving the essence of a moment, a feeling, and a fleeting glimpse of magic that resides within us all, if only for a moment.
